Tales from an after school program

As some of you may know, and others may not,  this fall kicked off my first experience teaching.  So I split time between to school districts working pt at both.  In the after school program, my job is to entertain a group from 8-25, 10-16 yr olds.  This is a rather wide age range.

I walked into the room yesterday and a girl runs up to me and gives me a hug, and says, "....hmm you smell good."  Another boy looked at me with the biggest blue eyes and says seriously, "I promise to be good today so you won't get upset like yesterday."  These are some of the nicer things said, I'll leave out the swearing and such. .
Sometimes else I've discovered is that kids want what they can't have.  If I am prepping a craft project while they are supposed to be reading, they hate reading and want to do crafts.  However as soon as reading time is over, and its time for crafts, reading is what they really want to do.  Ha
